How To Become A GYROTONIC® or GYROKINESIS® Trainer

Featured News // July 08, 2016

The GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® is comprised of two methods:

1. The GYROTONIC® Method, which is practiced on specialized equipment.
2. The GYROKINESIS® Method, which is practiced on a chair and/or mat on the floor, without equipment.

Both of these methods have distinct training paths for students to become teachers. Often, a person who has been taking classes in either method will experience life changing results and want to share those experiences with others. Thus, a pursuit to become a trainer begins. The Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis education systems involve more than a year of learning, practicing and observing to acquire just the first level of certification to teach. From there, a wide variety of real world experiences and ongoing education opportunities become available. For many, teaching these methods is a life long journey of exploration and development.

Below is the summary training schedule for both methods. For more detailed information visit our teacher training page on the Gyrotonic Headquarters website: https://gyrochinese.wpengine.com/teacher-training/

1. Personal classes and personal experience as a student

2. Pre-Training Course – 6 days (conducted by a Pre-Trainer)

3. Foundation Course – 12 days (conducted by a Master Trainer)

4. Practice teaching hours

5. Apprenticeship Review Course – 3 days

6. Final Certificate Course – 3 days (Must be taken within 1 year of completing your Foundation Course)

This system is not a terminal program. Both the Gyrotonic Method and Gyrokinesis Method teacher training programs require an ongoing commitment to learn and grow as a teacher, in order to maintain a trademark license to teach. To achieve this, you can choose from various learning opportunities. Below is a description of each of these opportunities. Note: A current Gyrotonic or Gyrokinesis Level 1 Trainer certification is a prerequisite for enrollment in all specialized courses and workshops. You can find specific course information and courses by date and location via the International Course Finder.

Continuing Education Courses
A continuing education course must be taken every two years. For questions about trademark licensing and certification, contact Gyrotonic International Headquarters at trainerstatus@gyrotonic.com.

Specialized Courses
Gyrotonic Specialized Courses range from sports specific applications, to level 2 exercise programs, to modifications & exercise sequences specifically suited for those with special needs. Each Gyrotonic Specialized Course fulfills the biennial CEC (update) requirement for Gyrotonic Level 1 Trainers.

Specialized Equipment Courses
The Gyrotonic Method is practiced on five unique and customizable pieces of equipment, all created by Juliu Horvath, Creator and Founder of the Gyrotonic Expansion System. These are: the Pulley Tower, Jumping Stretching Board, Leg Extension Unit, Archway and GYROTONER®. Taking specialized equipment courses is required to teach on each piece of equipment.

Workshops
Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis workshops are designed to be short, focused areas of learning to enhance your education. Note: These do not fulfill CEC requirements.

The Gyrotonic Expansion System education is a great way to deepen your own practice, while learning how to share the methods with others. Whatever method you would like to pursue, there is an exciting path for you. If you are currently a student, and would like to become a teacher, you can find all of the teacher training course information, along with dates and studio locations where the courses are offered, by going to the Gyrotonic International Headquarters website and using our International Course Finder. If you don’t have a trainer or studio nearby, it’s o.k. You may be the pioneer to bring the Gyrotonic Expansion System to your area! Explore more at gyrochinese.wpengine.com

_______________

Government requirements for movement professionals vary internationally. If you are interested in teaching the Gyrotonic or Gyrokinesis Methods professionally, you should first establish a good understanding of industry regulations in your region. For instance, in some european countries, the government requires Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis Trainers to hold either a government regulated license or academic degree in a movement or therapy related field, in addition to their Gyrotonic or Gyrokinesis Trainer certification. It is the student’s responsibility to understand the regulations specific to the region they intend to teach in, and to meet the industry requirements established by the governing bodies of that region.
